Svastha Yoga

Svastha yoga was so named by A.G. Mohan, a devoted student of Sri T. Krishnamacharya of 25 years. A.G. Mohan and the Mohan Family have developed schools in Chennai and Singapore as well as the United States in order to bring their abundant knowledge of classic yoga, ayurveda and Vedic scriptures to the world.  A.G.Mohan’s philosophy based on his learnings, believed that total health not only comes from the physical life, but also the balance of the mind and spirit. To accomplish this, breathing exercises (pranayama) and meditation are as emphasized as the yoga asanas themselves.

 

Svastha Yoga uses slow controlled movement to perform asanas based on classic hatha yoga. Breath is utilized extensively to better achieve spinal alignment while in movement. In maintaining proper breathing throughout, the body resists injury and overexertion. The breath is also used as a vehicle to providing an inner focus that calms the mind and the spirit while bringing deep awareness of the body.

 

 

Yoga Descriptions:

 

Beginner’s Yoga

Intended for those who are new to practicing yoga, movements will be slow and controlled in nature. Movements will be simple to follow. Proper alignment and breathing will be emphasized. This is a gentle, challenging class that will help bring peace of mind and calm to your days.

 

Yoga Basics-All Levels

This class uses slow controlled movement to perform asanas based on classic Hatha Yoga. We will perform a mixture of asanas focused on both strengthening and stretching the body. This practice will also challenge the breath by slowing the movements down while maintaining proper breath control. Yoga Basics aims to provide a challenge for the body as well as time to relax the body and mind.

 

Prenatal Yoga

Gentle yoga that will help maintain flexibility while strengthening areas on the body that will support an easier labor and childbirth experience. Focus will also be on relaxation, breathing exercises that will help keep the mind calm and connected to the body and chanting/meditation to encourage bonding between mother and baby.

 

 

Private Yoga Sessions:

 

Benefits of one-on-one sessions and small group vs. classroom sessions

Everyone has varying health needs. Some have old or new injuries and some have chronic aches and pains, and then some are physically very balanced but are seeking a more relaxed or focused state of mind, and spiritual connection. The advantage of taking a private yoga session is that all of these needs are taken into consideration when I build a session specific to you. We start with wherever you are that day, physically, mentally, and spiritually and build in whatever direction you want to go. Together, our goal is to bring balance to every aspect of your life and to bring you to a point of independence that will have you in control of your own health.

 

 

Rates:

Single Session Rate:

$50 = 75 minute session

Small Group Rate: (includes up to 3 people)

$75 = 75 minute session

**A separate appointment must be made for a FREE consultation before the first private session is to be given.**

         

Package Rates:

Single person rate-

3 sessions = $120 (save $30)

6 sessions = $210 (save $90)

10 sessions = $300 ( save $200)

Small Group rate- (includes up to 3 persons)

3 sessions = $195 (save $30)

6 sessions = $360 (save $90)

10 sessions = $550 (save $200)

 

 

You will receive an individualized session that is designed for you to practice and incorporate into your daily life, depending on your needs and preferences.

 

Follow up sessions are recommended every week for the first few weeks to ensure that you are practicing with proper alignment and to make any necessary modifications. After that, it is up to you and your needs or preferences. Generally, if some one is practicing regularly on their own, they may want to come in once a month or so for modifications that can follow their growth and any changes they may be encountering.

Cory Temkin’s Bio:

                  

I began my journey with yoga when I was 20 years old. I started reading and following books on yoga and building my own practice and understanding based on an eclectic collection of sources. I was most attracted to the idea of finding my center where I could build a source of mental, emotional and physical strength. I also continued studying Ayurveda and Nutrition to better satisfy my need to understand health and inner power as a holistic modality. I have an associate’s degree from Coconino Community College in Science and have had extensive education in Anatomy and Physiology at a university level. I have completed a 200 hour teacher training program in Svastha Yoga at Yoga State in Chicago where I was educated by A.G. Mohan, Indra Mohan and Ganesh Mohan, authors of Body, Breath, and Mind and Yoga Therapy. I have been teaching private yoga sessions since September of 2007 using the Svastha style as my guide. And have recently begun to teach yoga in a classroom setting. I strive to be connected to my true self by living in the reality that we are all connected and responsible for each other.
